The aunt of late Princess Diana of Wales, Lady Anne Wake-Walker, passed away at the golden age of 99, mere months before she would turn 100.
She lived at the long-time family home in East Bergholt, at the Essex and Suffolk border. Her nephew Earl Spencer, Lady Diana’s brother, described her aunt as being “wonderful lady” and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a favorite in the family.
She was also an officer in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during World War II. Her son described her passing as the ending of a great era.
Lady Anne was born in 1920, and she was raised in the family home at Althorp, Northamptonshire. Diana’s father and Anne’s sister John was the Queen’s equerry, while her mother and Diana’s grandmother was a lady-to-the-bedchamber of the Queen Mother. She was held that prestigious position for 35 years
Lady Ann married a Royal Navy lieutenant Christopher Baldwin Hughes Wake-Walker, who passed away in 1998. Their wedding took place at Westminster Abbey in 1994. The pair had three sons and two daughters together.
