Actress and singer Selena Gomez is only 27 years old, and so far, she seems to have lived two lives. Born in Texas in 1992, Selena Maria Gomez’s life was marked by a difficult childhood, fame at an early age, health problems, and a turbulent relationship with Justin Bieber.

Her father is of Mexican origin, and her mother, who gave birth to her at the age of 16, is Italian. However, when the future world star was just five years old, her parents decided to divorce, and Selena stayed with her mom, who had remarried and got another daughter, Gracie.

Selena’s growing up was marked by poverty, but her mother did everything in her power to provide everything that her family needs. As she often discovered, the family used to eat dinner for only a dollar, and the actress admitted that she was afraid of what would happen to her if she stayed in her old neighborhood.

“My mom has put her life and needs after, because of me. She has worked three jobs to make me feel better, and I will be forever grateful to her,” said Selena, who got into the Hollywood when she landed her first role on the Disney Channel, after which the music industry opened its doors for her. Selena’s life was also marked by wearing an “innocence ring,” which she put on at the age of 13 because of her father, and took it off in 2010.

At the age of 16, Selena signed a contract with the well-known record label Hollywood Records, with whom Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus had already collaborated, and immediately quit her mother and stepfather and turned her career into the hands of professionals. Selena is still one of the most beloved and famous ladies in the entertainment industry today, but with fame, many personal and health problems have come.

The singer has been diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys, and brain. She spoke about it only years later and how serious it was, tells the fact she had to undergo the kidney transplant in 2017. The kidney was donated to her by her close friend Francia Raisa.

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. Just a year earlier, during a very successful “Revival” tour, Selena canceled part of her shows due to health reasons. This time, it was not about lupus; it was about fighting panic attacks and depression, which made her apply to a rehab clinic.

These problems were intensified by the first problems in a long-term and turbulent relationship with Justin Bieber, which began in 2010. More informed sources claim that as much as they loved each other, they were also toxic to one another. Numerous breakups marked their relationship, and the final one occurred in March 2018.

Selena sang about this relationship in several songs, from which it was quite clear that it wasn’t all perfect in their relations, but they could not do without each other. And then just a few weeks after the final break up, Justin started a relationship with model Hailey Baldwin, whom he recently married. Selena was crushed.

Rehabs, retractions from the media, and social media followed, but in October, Selena dropped the hit “Lose You To Love Me,” which broke all records. The song is dedicated to Bieber, and with it, the talented beauty became the first musician to hit the number 1 at Billboard and Rolling Stone charts together.

She may not have found the man of her life yet, but millions of fans and others admire her because she found herself in all this chaos and emerged stronger than ever.

Selena also can boast with the documentary “Living Undocumented” and the hit series “13 Reasons Why,” which she worked on as an executive producer. And she’s only 27!
