The popular actress and singer has just turned 27 years old, but it feels like she has lived two full lives by now.
Selena Maria Gomez, 27, was born in 1992 in Texas. Her private life was marked with a rough childhood, celebrity status and fame at a very young age, health issues, and most notably, her turbulent relationship with singer Justin Bieber, 25.
Selena’s father has Mexican roots while her mother who gave birth to her at 16 has Italian roots. While the future star was 5, her parents decided to divorce each other. Selena lived with her mom who remarried in the meantime and now has another daughter, Gracie, 5.
Selena’s upbringing was plagued with poverty, but her mother has done everything in her power to provide for her family. As she revealed years later, the family often ate $1 dinners. She fears what would have happened to her if she had stayed in her hometown.
“My mother has devoted her entire life to me and my needs. She has worked three jobs so that I could have a better life, and I will always be grateful for that.”
For Selena, Hollywood dreams came true following her first role on the Disney channel, after which a music career was in sight as well. She has worn a purity ring from 13, but took it off in 2010.
At 16, Selena signed a contract with “Hollywood Records”, a record house that collaborated with Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus. She handed her career to the pros and cut business ties with her parents. She is still one of the most popular and loved women in the entertainment industry. However, with her fame, numerous private and health problems followed.
The singer has been diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can target various parts of the body, including skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys, and the brain. She spoke about it for the first time only years later. How serious her condition had been was evident by the kidney transplant she had to undergo in 2017. Her close friend Francia Raisa was the donor.
Only a year before this, Selena had to quit her immensely successful “Revival” tour because of health issues. This was not lupus, but actually panic attacks and depression. She had to check into a rehabilitation clinic.
Those health issues have intensified over the years, first time following her years-long and very turbulent relationship with singer Justin Bieber. The pair first got together in 2010. However, as dozens of sources confirm, despite their incredible love, they were too toxic to one another. A number of breakups marked their relationship, which finally ended in 2018.

Selena has sung about her longest and hardest relationship in a number of songs, from which we can easily see just how rough it was, and not at all peachy. Still, they could not be apart, and they chose to suffer as long as they could.
Then, to everyone’s shock and amazement, only a few weeks after the breakup, Justin Bieber has started a relationship with supermodel Hailey Baldwin, 23, now Hailey Bieber, since they got married soon thereafter. This was the final blow for Selena.
Another rehab came, a total removal from the media, as well as social media platforms. Several weeks ago, she released a hit single titled “Lose You to Love Me”, which broke all records. The song is of course dedicated to Bieber, and it made Gomez the first female singer to sit at the top of the “Billboard” and the “Rolling Stone” charts.
