Washington Capitals were the current champions, and they were leading the game with 2-0 with the goals from Burakovsky and Wilson. The score was changed when Aho scored a goal, but it was changed again to 3-1 when Kuznetsov scored a goal.
Teräväinen managed to score another goal for Carolina Hurricanes and just three minutes before the end Staal managed to secure the overtime.
