‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fans Are Heartbroken: Alex Karev Has Left the Building!

After playing the role of Dr. Alex Karev in series “Grey’s Anatomy” for 15 years, actor Justin Chambers decided to move on, and leave the famous medical drama. The last episode in which he appears already aired on Nov 14.

Chambers stated: “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years. For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

The 49-year-old actor showed appreciation for his colleagues and audience: “As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank ABC family, Shonda Rhimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride.”

Alex Karev has been the part of the series since its beginning, first as an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital. He initially made an impression of a bad guy and, as a troubled character, was resented by the other interns. Throughout the series, Karev became one of the most significant characters.

Interestingly, he wasn’t part of the original pilot. The character of Alex Karev was written after the first episode was shot. Justin’s scenes were later digitally added.

Fans of the TV show are in disbelief of Justin’s leaving in the middle of the story. One of the fans wrote on Twitter: “Karev is just going to leave the show, just like that, when he has a whole storyline going with running a whole hospital, something doesn’t sound right, we are not buying it, Shonda”.

Some of them are confused by this decision.

The departure of Alex Karev from the series was seen by many as a major punch to Meredith, which remains the only one from the original lineup.

Justin Chambers indeed left his fans heartbroken.
