EXPRESS – 01/29/2020: Every day you can hear something surprising regarding Donald Trump and his family. This time we bring you the news that apparently Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner didn’t vote for Donald Trump during the Republican primary in 2016. The reason is, you will see it by yourself, quite bizarre.

It seems that Ivanka Trump and Jared didn’t register as Republicans in time. For all of you not familiar with the election system in the US, we are going to explain it. The candidate for the presidential spot is elected through the number fo primary elections. Each state votes for its candidate. After they chose their candidate, delegates from the named states go to the party’s National Convention and vote for them. For one candidate to become a forerunner for the presidency, he needs 1,237 delegates to vote for him.

Not every state has the same voting system in the primaries. For example New York State, same as a couple of other states, allows only for registered members of either Republicans or Democrats to vote in primary elections. New York also has a couple of different interesting rules. All voters need to be registered with their party six months before the primaries.

Before Donald Trump decided to become a Republican candidate, he was closer to the Democrat party. He was also a member of this party. The same goes for Ivanka and Jared. They were part of the Democrats in 2016 and failed to change their colors before the primaries. Because of this, they didn’t have the right to vote for Donald Trump.

Ivanka and Jared weren’t aware of New York State’s regulations regarding elections. They were surprised that they weren’t able to give their vote to Donald Trump. Luckily trump amassed enough support to win the primaries. During general elections, he had the support of his daughter and son-in-law and the rest of the US as he managed to become the President.
