According to the YouTube Rewind, James Charles dominated the popular video service. Ever since he was named CoverGirl’s first male ambassador in 2016, Charles has been a focal point of the public’s attention. This year, however, he has taken it up a notch.

This year’s YouTube Rewind – a review of YouTube’s authors and trends for the past year – revealed that Charles has been on top in several key categories, firmly placing himself in the leading position among other beauty creators.

His most successful video was No More Lies. It was the number one trending video in the United States in all categories and number seventh in the world. The video was a pinnacle of a drawn-out squabble Charles had with Halo Beauty founder Tati Westbrook, one of the OG beauty creators.

While YouTube explicitly says that trending videos aren’t just affected by views, but other factors as well, like engagement factor and speed of growth, No More Lies attracted 48 million views.

Considering it is 41 minutes long, it is quite an achievement.

Charles also has the top spot for most liked beauty video globally. His Makeup Tutorial en Español, where he explains makeup techniques in Spanish, gathered 1.6 million likes, staying ahead of the likes of Shane Dawson’s “The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star” with 1.4M likes and Kylie Jenner’s “Kylie Jenner: A Day in the Life” with 1.3M likes.

You can see who else was successful in this year’s YouTube Rewind.
