Iceland is a relatively small island but it has so much to offer. This is the country of extremes which makes Iceland a fairytale place. Volcanoes and icebergs, hot springs and ice caves, dry rocks, sandy deserts, and green plains. You can truly see everything here. As much as its nature is unwelcoming, it’s also stunning and leaves everyone in awe.

Endless nights during winter and never-ending days during summer will play with your biorhythm, but you won’t mind one bit. It is a glorious country that you have no option but to respect.

The majority of Iceland’s landscape is rugged and unhospitable leaving a smaller part of the country suitable for living. In order to see everything that’s important on the island, it’s recommended that you rent a car. You can, however, travel by bus, but it’s going to take a lot longer for you to reach from point A to point B. Also, there are some attractions to which the bus leaves only once or twice a day meaning you’ll have to organize your time according to the bus schedule. According to IcelandAdventureTours, South Iceland is home to some of the most popular and most beautiful Iceland attractions. So, let’s see what are some of the things you can’t miss in Iceland.

    1. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula. If you wish to see Iceland in a day, this is the place to go to. It has glaciers, a volcano, lava fields, and a stunning coastline. It’s like a miniature Iceland and allows you to experience all of the different landscapes Iceland has to offer. This place was declared a National Park in 2001 which tells you just how attached Icelanders are to it.
    2. Vestrahorn Mountain. The black sand beach combined with the view on this stunning mountain makes for a perfect location to spend the day and experience all of the sides of Iceland. You can walk on the beach and enjoy the scenery, and there’s a chance that you’ll even get to see some seals. It is also, as the majority of Iceland landscapes, a perfect location for photographers.

  1. Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. This lagoon offers breathtaking scenery, amazing ice formations, and beautiful coast. Simply take a look at some of the photos from that place and you’ll understand why you simply can’t visit Iceland without going to Jökulsárlón. If you’re not a fan of glaciers and ice, trust me, it doesn’t matter.
  2. Skaftafell National Park. There are a lot of waterfalls you can see here, one of which is my personal favorite – the Svartifoss. Around the waterfall, you can see black basalt columns that make the view even more impressive. If you’re into hiking, this national park is the place for you.
  3. Thermal pools. With numerous thermal pools such as the famous Blue Lagoon all around the country, Iceland makes for a perfect vacation location for all of you who enjoy bathing outside in hot pools. Wherever you are in Iceland, the chances are you’ll have a thermal pool somewhere near you.
