Arguably one of the most important pieces of furniture in your house, the bed frame serves as a foundation for your mattress. Though some would argue that it’s simply a decoration for the bed, bed frames can add style and provide extra storage if you pick the right one.
Make sure you pick the right bed frame with these helpful tips:
Budget
Bed frames can end up on the pricier side, so make sure that if you have a budget you stick to it. That one bed frame which costs a couple thousand dollars may look amazing, but it won’t look great if it’s the only piece of nice furniture in your room. Visit furniture stores online like 1825 interiors and look online for bed frames that would suit your price range.
Slats
The most important part of the bed frame, slats are what will provide your mattress (and you) with support. You usually want your slats on the firmer side and with a shorter distance in between. A large gap will wear your mattress out much quicker, and if you’re spending hundreds of dollars on one then you’ll want it to last as long as it can.
There are generally two types of slats: sprung and flat. Sprung slats are designed with a curve to allow for more natural bounce to adjust your natural profile. However, be aware of cheap sprung slats as they’ll break under much more quickly and ruin your mattress as well. Flat slats are much cheaper if you have a budget but still provide more than adequate support.
Box Springs
Whether or not you need a box spring will depend on the type of bed frame you have. If you have one that only has a slats then you’ll need a box spring as they can absorb the shock and reduce the wear of the mattress. Many people with platform beds like the Woollahra King Bed Frame from 1825 interiors won’t need a box spring as they prefer the firmness, however if you want a little more cushion than a box spring is for you.
Space
It might feel nice to spread yourself out on a massive king size bed, you need to consider how much space you have available. Even if you can fit a king sized bed frame into your space, if there isn’t enough practical walking space than you might have to say goodbye to that dream. It’s also important to consider how far your drawers may pull out or how wide your cabinet doors will open. There’s no point in having storage if you can’t open it.
Height
This is a matter of personal preference, but many prefer their beds higher up so it’s easier to get out of. However, personal height needs to also be considered when it comes to the height of your bed – it’d be annoying if you had to scale a wall in order to sleep. Many people use box springs in order to increase the height of their mattress.
Style
This is completely up to personal choice, but bed frames are not only there to provide support but style as well. If you have a Hampton’s inspired room then choose a white wooden bed frame, or for an industrial style room than opt for a metal bed frame.
