Kinetic Sand huh? Most of the people would think that sand when in its natural state, is very difficult to attach. You would need to have a significant amount of water and proper equipment to prevent it from going with the wind. Thankfully, there are ways that you can use sand and make something fun of them. Kinetic Sand is a play or regular sand mixed with a polymer, which enables chaining of sand`s molecules. Meanwhile, because of the sand`s consistency, people love to play with kinetic sand because it always returns to its original state. Different from classic sand, kinetic sand can`t dry out and stick to anything, so, it is perfect from indoor use.

It is important to know that this recipe was created to be used as a calming activity for people with special needs. Now we are going to present you with the materials needed for making kinetic sand.

Kinetic Sand


– Ten pounds of play sand
– One and a half cup of cornstarch
– Half a teaspoon of dishwashing alcohol
– Airtight container for storage
– One cup of water
– One medium and one large bowl for mixing the sand

Kinetic Sand


– Put the sand in a large-size bowl
– Add cornstarch to the bowl with sand and mix them
– Use a medium-size bowl for mixing water and dish soap
– Combine the content of both bowls and mix it

Where it Should be Stored?

No matter the time, kinetic sand should be stored in an airtight container. That container should keep it from contaminations like dust. As we said earlier, kinetic sand can`t dry-out, however, it can change its consistency over time. In this case, you need to add a couple of drops of water, and it will be as good as new.
